Process Paper:
We chose the topic, after much debate, when we saw a commercial on television about the upcoming documentary that was coming to theaters soon. “Unbroken” would be directed by Angelina Jolie, based on the life of Laura Hillenbrand’s book based on the life of Louis Zamperini, a World War II veteran. We thought that it would be a topic that wouldn’t be well know or chosen by many people since the movie hadn’t come out yet, and even we hadn’t heard of him until then.
Our research began by finding the book “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand. We then found other books such as “Devil at my Heels” by Louis Zamperini himself. We bought them and highlighted parts out of them and found many sources in the back of the books that could then be found on the internet and used for further research. We also used Zamperini’s hometown newspaper, the “Torrance Herald”, as well as the official US Army and WWII websites. We also found youtube videos of recent interviews with Zamperini before he died.
We chose to make a website because it was something that all of us could do. We all had conflicting schedules outside of the classroom and knew that since we all had the internet, we could all in theory work on it ‘together’. We also found out that by using the website, we were able to share the videos and audio links with others much easier than by just trying to retell the general theme of what we saw.
Our project was done mostly at Jake’s house. Otherwise, we did the research and added it on ourselves. Every few days someone would add something new and the others would just go along and edit it as well as add their own findings.
